What you are pointing out is the need for awareness to complement mindfulness, and I fully agree. <br /><br />Another way to look at this is that as you are chopping carrots you can get engrossed in the mindful activity of slicing through vegetables. But if you are not aware of what you are doing, you'll chop off your finger. So don't space out! You'll learn this lesson pretty quickly when you fall down the stairs or slice your finger.<br /><br />You will find that mindfulness practice clears the mind, which leads to enhanced awareness. Awareness naturally comes out of mindfulness, but you may also notice that sometimes practicing mindfulness can lead people to get spaced out.
